Knights of
Columbus Cioppino Feed Fundraiser
The date has
been set for the 7th annual Cioppino Dinner fundraiser. Mark your calendars
for February 11, 2012, and buy your tickets so you won't miss out. The
proceeds from this fundraiser support our men and women in the military,
veterans, and related programs. Donations made from last year's Cioppino
Dinner proceeds included: $1500 to homes for our troops, $500 to the
Veterans Guest House in Reno, $500 to the Disabled Veterans' Project
Compassion, and $500 each to the Douglas High School Junior Reserve Officer
Training Corps and the Douglas County Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program.
Cioppino, a
seafood stew, includes shrimp, crab, clams, and white fish in a special
Italian spiced tomato sauce base. It will be served with a green salad,
french bread, dessert, and non-alcoholic beverages. Prime rib may be
substituted for Cioppino. Tickets are $30 and are available at the St. Gall
Catholic Church office .
The Knights
Cioppino Dinner was first served in 2006 to revive a 1960's annual Carson
Valley tradition. As told by long-time resident, Julian Larrouy, the Pagni
family who operated an Italian restaurant in Pleasant Valley called the
Jubilee Club, hosted an annual Cioppino Dinner at the former Gardnerville
Pyrenees Hotel in appreciation for selecting the Pagni brothers as
contractors on an addition to the Gardnerville Elementary School.
